A total of 42 people are confirmed to have been killed on Friday night when suspected rebels of the Allied Democratic forces-ADF attacked Mpondwe-Lhubiriha Secondary School in Kasese district.

37 of the dead are school students while five were non- students that include a school askari.

Four students were injured and admitted at Bwera General hospital with one of them referred to Kirudu hospital in Kampala.

The school administration said 62 learners were in the school at the time of the attack.

25 other students are now suspected to have been abducted by the rebels.

The Kasese RDC Lt. Joe Walusimbi told URN on Sunday that the UPDF is pursuing the suspects who crossed to neighbouring DR. Congo after the attack and they were yet to get results adding that a joint local operations across the border areas are on-going.

Meanwhile, Mpondwe-Lhubira secondary school has been closed indefinitely after the Friday suspected ADF attack in which 37 students and five other people were killed.

The state Minister for Higher Education John Chrysostom Muyingo said they are temporarily closing the school to allow thorough investigations into the incident before it could be allowed to operate.

The Kasese RDC also said that schools as recommended by the ministry should not have bulger proofs in the windows arguing that open windows would have enabled at least some students to escape the attackers.

Security blames the attack on the porous border points.
