Two people killed in Kasese Floods
Two people were killed in Kasese municipality on Saturday when floods hit parts of Kasese town after River Nyamwamba burst its banks. The floods affected residents in Nyamwamba Division.
The Rwenzori East Police Spokesperson, Nelson Tumushiime on Saturday evening said that a body of man and woman had been retrieved from separate locations after they were swept by the running water as they attempted to cross the flooded areas.
He noted that the fire and rescue team is on ground to help all people who are believed to be trapped in Kilembe Sub County areas.
Police has called upon people especially those leaving close to the river banks to vacate to safer places as more rains are expected.
Every time it rains, Kasese community always become suspicious as it has been almost a habit to loose properties and lives.
Despite Government interventions in controlling floods, the District is prone to devastating natural calamities.
A number of people have always been displaced and forced to live in internally displaced camps-IDPs where situation is worrying when it comes to access to food, clean water and other personal security needs.
