A local entrepreneur in Kasese is asking for government financing to fund her snail project with justification that snails are delicious for human consumption more than chicken.
Lucy Shilingi whose presentation surprised many participants who attended a one day private sector players meeting organized by Operation Wealth Creation at Virina gardens on thursday, said snails are also a source of income with its plate soup costing about 40 US dollars in luxurious hotels like Serena and Speke Resort Munyonyo.
She also stressed that snails also rich in calcium and proteins and have high market demand in West Africa, South Africa and china.
She wants government to finance her with 27000 US dollars which is equivalent to Shs 90million to enable her put up a snail garden, buy inputs and train farmers in snail farming.
Responding to her financial need, the deputy Chief Executive Officer Microfinance Support Center Hellen Masika tasked Lucy to write to microfinance for a loan worth her project at a lowest interest so that she can carry on her snail project. END
