The Rwenzori East Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner, Richard Ecega has expressed his discontent about the recent comments by the Kasese district Chairperson, Mr. Geoffrey Bigogo who called for the prosecution of the officer who shot dead the late Bighanzire in Kasangali in Bwesumbu sub county in Kasese district.
Mr. Acega who seemed disappointed with the manner in which Mr. Bigogo made conclusions without closely associating himself with the circumstances under which Mr. Amanya was reportedly stubbed and cut by the deceased wondered why Mr. Bigogo was not sympathizing with the officers serving under a suspicious environment in Kasese district.
The regional police boss who reminded Mr. Bogogo of the past killings, invited the chairman into the Police forces so as he understand the environment under which they were operating, before announcing that
preliminary investigations had suggested that Mr. Amanya, the officer who shot, did it in self defense.
Mr. Geoffrey Bigogo, the Kasese District Chairman had called for immediate prosecution the officer who did not only act unprofessionally but to also send a signal that his actions were regrettable.
Mr. Acega who wondered what would have been Mr. Bigogo`s statements if it was the soldier who died called for change of attitude for the security and all citizens by the Wanainchi if peace was to prevail.
A youth leader from Bugoye sub county, Mr. Clovis Kayiri warned the community members against resisting arrests, saying this could force the security personnel to act otherwise.
The late Matayo Bighanzire Matayo a civilian was shot dead in Bwesumbu by soldiers on August 18, 2017 and is said to have survived with a wife and six children.
