MUNICIPALITY: The snows on Mount Rwenzori might reduce to zero in the next 15 years, if residents living on its slopes do not plant more trees, the Kasese Municipal Mayor His worship Kabyanga Godfrey Kiime has said.
He made the observation this evening in an interview with the press at his office in Kasese town.
The Mayor Kabyanga observed that most people in Rwenzori region are proud of their mountain but have done less to conserve the environment, a situation he says need to be reversed.
He asked people to plant more trees come this rain season and pledged to provide free tree seedlings on behalf of Kasese Municipal council.
He also advised landlords in the area covering Kikorongo up to Kahokya to plant trees so that they can easily address challenges of drought.
The Mayor also commended the residents of Kasese district whom he said have impressed solar power that eliminates carbon in the air.
He called for collective responsibility from the various stakeholders to fight environmental degradation. END
