Over 90m shillings swindled in Kabarole

KABAROLE. Over 90m shillings meant for water sector has been swindled in the last financial year in Kabarole district.

According to the district councilor for Karambi Sub County, due to increased corruption in the district this has affected service delivery to the public.

Mashuhuko said that in the last F/Y a total amount of 50m shillings meant to construct gravity water scheme in Kichwamba, Buhara, and Mukonomura were swindled by the district water officer Pius Mugabe conniving with some district political leaders.

As a result, residents of Futi Butangwa Karambi Sub County have expressed great concern over shortage of clean water in their area.

They say that for the long time their area has been having water problem therefore acquiring communicable diseases.

The residents disclosed that the district recently brought water pipes and they just left them on ground.

The residents also told our reporter that they wonder whether they also stay in Kabarole district putting the blame to their leaders.

Mashuhuko uttered that the district due to too much corruption last year the council resolved to bring an auditor to audit water office but up to date nothing has been done.

He condemned the district accounting officer, the district chairperson and other technical staff for lack of supervision while they are given allowances to monitor government programs.

Meanwhile last year the local government public accounts committee led by its chairperson Regan Okum arrested the district water officer Mugabe Pius over Buhara, Mukonomura water. End
