Mubuku irrigation scheme ruffle needs political approach

The Mayor Kasese Municipality His worship Godfrey Kabyanga has revealed plans to take political approach in settling management issues affecting Mubuku irrigation scheme.

Kabyanga told our reporter that he has agreed with the Kasese District Chairperson Sibendire Bigogo to come up with a long lasting solution concerning Mubuku irrigation scheme management.

Mubuku irrigation scheme is currently managed by Basajja Kweyamba association that oversees all farming activities in the scheme and giving out plots to farmers.

However the association has suffered a numerous of accusations from farmers who don’t subscribe to it as they fault it of being greedy and leaning on one section of farmers.

Recently the Kasese district chairperson Sibendire Bigogo noted that the managing association has failed to unite farmers in Mubuku irrigation scheme under one arm and called for review of the scheme management.

Kabyanga now says after a thorough understanding of management issues at Mubuku irrigation scheme, him and the district chairperson are working on measures of solving the mess with the line minister of state for agriculture Hon. Christopher Kibanzanga.

Mubuku irrigation scheme was rehabilitated by government in 2009 at a tune of 19 billion shillings with an aim of boosting both commercial and subsistence agriculture among farmers in Kasese district. Ends
