Mechanism for farmers to increase food production amidst dry spells found

KASESE. A mini-irrigation scheme will be constructed on Kanyampara water Chanel to boost the production food crops even during dry spells.

The project worthy two hundred ninety six million was on 3rd November handed to the Kangitsi contractor’s ltd by the Kasese district secretary for works Patrick Muthanaba.

Addressing residents of Kanyampara II village in Munkunyu Sub County at the official handover, Hon. Muthanaba asked the local leadership of Munkunyu Sub County to own the project.

He advised the local leadership to closely monitor and guide the contractor since they are well versed with the Kanyampara water channel.

The chairperson for Munkunyu sub county Mr. Josephat Muhindo who also witnessed the official handover asked the new contractor to do quality work adding that he would join demonstrators if shoddy work is done at the min-irrigation scheme.

The Kasese district Engineer Mr. Aliphose Katswamba says residents in the area will improve in the production of crops and increase their house hold incomes.

The director for Kangitsi contractors Mr. Kafeeri has assured the local population and leadership quality work and appealed to the people to support him.

Kasese district is blessed with over twelve rivers from which mini irrigation schemes can be constructed to address the challenge of dry spells and unpredicted rains. END.
