The Kasese District FDC chairperson, Mr. Saulo Maate has challenged government to scrap taxes on food stuffs like beans and rice as a measure to avail food to the hunger affected families.
Speaking to UJK reporter, Mr. Maate indicated that the few stores for beans and rice from DRC was basically to fill the temporary food scarcity gaps but quickly added that the alleged arrests of dealers by government agents would frustrate the move.
Mr. Maate asked central government representatives in Kasese District to report hunger threats to higher authorities before reasoning that the situation if not handled in time may frustrate plans to pack food for learners during school days.
The acting vice Chairperson for NRM Kasese district Mr. Johnson Kamalha Kalyasa when contacted said his office would first consult if they are any plans to block food staffs from the Democratic republic of Congo. END
