Kasese district lose fight against sanga meat

By Ronald Kule

The Kasese District Vice Chairperson LC 5 Gideon Ssanyu Ntabosi has blamed the laxity by the district authorities to fight sanga meat to noncompliance by local residents to stop consuming the said meat.

Ntabosi says despite efforts by the district leadership to sensitize the locals that sanga meat is not recommended for human consumption, the residents have continued buying the meat.

He said as district leaders together with the health department, they indicated their position on the said meat and made council resolutions to ban it from accessing Kasese markets but traders and their customers have silently continued with sanga meat trade.

Ntabosi, who was addressing the media on Tuesday at Kasese District Local Government Headquarters in Rukoki, said the resolution has since then met a lot of resistance from community members who enjoy sanga meat thus affecting its implementation.

Sanga meat is exported from Kiruhura district and sold in Kiburara trading center, Nyakiyumbu, Isango and Mpondwe lhubiriha town council.

The cheap beef is enjoyed more by the average locals with each kilogram ranging from 3000shs to 4000shs compared to fresh meat which goes for shs9000 per kilogram.END
