KASESE-Dr. Chrispus Kiyonga, former Minister of defence, now the district mango farmer’s chairperson has said he will continue to support training for coffee farmers.

Kiyonga who was addressing a meeting of trainers for coffee farmers in Mpondwe Lhubiriha town council told the people that once coffee farmers do what they are being taught they will harvest a lot of coffee, earn a lot of money and improve their capacity to support the welfare of their families.

The training this time round has been done in the sub-counties and drawn people from their different parishes. The people who were trained will in turn assist to train their families and neighbours. The teaching is covering mainly the following subjects; care for the coffee trees recognizing diseases and treating them, making terraces and trapping water for the trees, ensuring good quality coffee for better prices, applying manure and fertilizers and stamping old trees.

The training was conducted by three officials from NUCAFE (the National Uganda Coffee Agribusiness and Farm Enterprises) and the training was financed by the UCDA (Uganda Coffee Development Authority)

It is expected that after all farmers have been trained, a system to avail fertilizers and other chemicals for treating disease will be made available. Ends
