The leadership of Bugoye sub-county has made by-laws governing the growing of Vanilla and it will involve arresting residents who shall have not grown the crop as one way of reducing Vanilla thieves in the area.
This was announced by the sub-county LC3 chairman Mr. Mulyangasu David while talking to our reporter.
He showed that Vanilla is earning much money to those who have it but it still challenged by thieves which forced the leadership to set by-laws of arresting those who don’t have it because they end up stealing from those who have it.
Mulyangasu disclosed that whoever wants to grow Vanilla shall be getting stems from a recognized farmer and give him a receipt.
He noted that selling Vanilla to a specified buyer shall help them to monitor and control buyers who may buy Vanilla at lower price.
He added that they have boosted on the security set up of the area by establishing police posts in Ibanda, Bugoye and Kawembe areas respectively and a UPDF Detach at Kawembe which will protect Vanilla from thieves.
Speaking to Mr. Earnest Kitambara the LC2 chairperson for Muhambo parish and the chairperson for Vanilla farmers in the sub-county disclosed that as the leadership at parish level, have supplied Vanilla stems to locals and have given them barbed wires so that they lease their farms.
He appealed to locals to atleast have five plants of vanilla so that they can also earn income to sustain their families. Ends
