46 Rwandese Held in Kasese

Kasese police has in detention Forty six Rwandese for illegal entry into Uganda.

They were intercepted as they attempted to sneak in Kasese district via Katunguru along Mbarara highway.

They are detained in three separate detention facilities including railway police, Nyakasanga and Kasese central police.

Police declined to give details of the arrest saying they are still investigating the matter.

The Kasese OC’CID Mr. Omar Ambrose confirmed the arrest without divulging into details and referred the media to the Uganda police spokesperson for an official comment.

UJK noticed that the intercepted people were travelling in commuter tax registration number UBA 841 D and another one UBC 325P now parked at Kasese Central Police Station.

The interception comes at a time when Uganda and Rwanda are at longheads’ following the closure of Gatuna border posts.

Gatuna is one of the busiest transit routes in the region, serving travelers to and from Uganda, Kenya and even South Sudan.

The Immigration official at Gatuna told The East African News paper that they are not going to allow the Rwandese to cross to Uganda saying they are being arrested, tortured and mistreated. End
