14.9billion Kasese main market construction starts

KASESE: Government has officially handed over a 14.9billion shillings Kasese main market facility to China new era group to kick start its construction that is expected to last for two years.

At the handover ceremony at the market site in Kasese town, government was represented by the RDC Kasese Lt James Mwesigye and Charles Muhindo from the local government ministry whereas the contractor was represented by Pan Changjing.

According to Eng. Fatak Gabriel Bwambale of Fincon Consultant Engineers which is responsible for consultancy works, the new market facility upon completion will have 269 modern lockups, 458 market stalls, surface parking for over forty cars, washrooms and business zoning areas among others.

Charles Muhindo from the local government ministry urged the contractors to deliver quality work within the stipulated period and also asked local leaders in Kasese to ensure strict supervision of the project.

The RDC Kasese Lt Mwesigye pledged on behalf of government to ensure strict monitoring of the construction works and asked the Chinese contractor to challenge Ugandans’ perception about Chinese companies by delivering quality work.

The Kasese municipality mayor his worship Godfrey Kabyanga described the project implementation as a dream-come true after nine years of waiting.

The market construction is under the MATIP project with a loan funding from African development bank.
